Manavi Handa (she/her)
Manavi Handa is a Registered Midwife and Associate Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University. For the past 25 years she has focused her clinical practice, research and advocacy on equity in healthcare, especially for refugees. Her research was the basis for expanded provincial funding in 2015 for undocumented residents in midwifery care.
Manavi's work in social and reproductive justice has been recognized through several prestigious awards: Urban Alliance for Race Relations Award (2009), The Iewirokwas Cape Award for Midwifery Heros (2020), Planned Parenthood Reproductive Choice Award (2023), Association of Ontario Midwives Excellence in Research (2024). Manavi is passionate about Canada’s moral and ethical commitment to universal healthcare
Aoife Chamberlaine (she/her)
Aoife Chamberlaine graduated from the Midwifery Education Program at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2012 and practiced at West End Midwives from that time until 2019. She graduated from York University with a Master’s of Social Work in 2023. As part of REACH Midwives, Aoife is grateful for the opportunity to combine her passion for clinical excellence with the pursuits of social and reproductive justice, and health care for all. Aoife also co-chairs the Health Network for Uninsured Clients. When she isn’t in the clinic, Aoife enjoys baking, exploring new parks with her kids, and being near water.
